The ARCADIA Annual Conference 2010 had one major purpose: to facilitate the dialogue between researchers, scholars, practitioners and policy makers on this year’s theme: Development, Trade and Foreign and Security Policy: How can Emerging Donors make a difference? This events edition has as background the emergence of new donors and the subsequent development of related policies, strategies and institutions. Viewed not only from a governmental and financial point of view, but also from a civil-society standpoint, the implications of donor-ship prove to be challenging. Therefore, this conference will critically analyze the relations between developing countries and emerging donors from three interrelated perspectives: Development, Trade and Foreign and Security Policy.

During this event, World Vision Romania Foundation organized and facilitated one of the workshops and invited the participants to reflect upon the existing resources and initiatives in development cooperation in Romania and give input on how to put together academic knowledge and the expertise of civil society in their common effort to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. In the context of the “Raising awareness for development cooperation” project whose main aim is to create the first MDG related curricula in Romania, the objectives of the workshop were to:

  • inform on the stage of development of the curriculum plan
  • involve the participants in a consultation debate on the design and content of the courses
  • identify collaboration opportunities in implementing and promoting a curriculum on the MDGs in Romania
  • Capitalize on the existing resources and define a framework of collaboration between civil society and the academia in forming and supporting future and present national experts in the field

The audience consisted of 15 people: students, practitioners, PhD students, representatives of non-governmental organizations and academia both from Romania and from UK. Their feedback was mainly related to the practical aspects of the modules (practical activities and knowledge assessments), their user friendliness and interestingness for the students.
